Senior second baseman Austin Holt — buried on the depth chart behind Andrew Thigpen and Conner Mach at the beginning of the season — has cemented his spot at the top of the Tigers’ batting order.
Sophomore catcher Ryan Ampleman — who was expected to give starter Trevor Coleman the occasional night off — began his ascent when he got back into the starting lineup as the designated hitter. Now he’s the starting catcher after Coleman’s hand was broken by a foul ball April 28.
Though Missouri’s fortunes aren’t hanging on Holt and Ampleman, their contributions have been a key part of the Tigers’ recent hot streak.
