. . . And until the players get used to the new bats, teams are working on moving runners around any way possible. Batters won’t be able to get away with mistakes as often as they could in the past.

“You notice it in the balls you get jammed on,” said outfielder Jonah Schmidt, whose seven home runs in 2010 is tops among returning players. “I was able to get jammed on some pitches last year, and it would still carry. I just don’t think it’s going to be like that this year.”
