Scherzer said he was locating his fastball better than the last outing and "didn’t make too many mistakes," adding that he didn’t feel he pitched as poorly in New York as the pitching line indicated.
He said it was important to not "get caught up in the hoopla" of Opening Day and keep a business-like approach. But he smiled and allowed this much: "It was a great atmosphere and I definitely enjoyed pitching it in."

"When you become more experienced as a pitcher," he said, "you learn to better maintain a focus. I think that's the main area in which I've grown as a pitcher from a year ago."
