Mizzou Baseball Recruit news

■ I received an e-mail update on MU Recruit Eric Anderson:

After a long basketball season interfered with early baseball practice, he is
back pitching. Last three outings he has pitched 15 innings, two complete games, struck out 24 and only allowed 3 hits. Opponents included a ranked Colorado team and an Arizona team in a Phoenix based national tournament.

Halfway through the season he is leading the conference in ERA and strikeouts as a pitcher, and is hitting .440

Recent performances have gotten him a lot of attention from scouts, who have clocked him in the low 90’s and he has been consistently working around 88.

■ The St. Charles Journal mentions a pair of MU Recruits Warriors get 1 more taste of Champagne:

Brannon Champagne was at his best against Zumwalt North on Thursday. Covering two-thirds of the outfield, he made a throw home that nailed a base runner and extended the conference game to extra-innings, where he was part of a rally that broke the game open in a 6-3 West win.

He rattled the nerves of all-conference catcher Ryan Fox, who made two throwing errors in the seventh inning before Champagne scored to tie the game. Whether it's weaving his way through defenders on seemingly innocent-looking plays on the gridiron, in the face of the opposing ballhander on the basketball court, or applying pressure with huge leads on the base pads, Champagne has developed into one of the finest multi-sport athletes this county has ever produced.

"He's been a dominant player his last three years so I wouldn't expect anything less out of him this year," West coach Ray Rico said. "He showed what he's capable of today - he's a playmaker. When he's on base, he puts pressure on defenses."
. . .
Andy Heifner, a four-year member of the varsity, is going to be Champagne's roommate when they arrive in Columbia, but for now, he's the Warriors' No. 1 pitcher. The senior right-hander was 1-3 in 15.7 innings pitched last year. He started against Zumwalt North on Thursday and held a potent lineup to just two hits.

"He proved today that when he's on the mound, he keeps us in the game," Rico said. "We expect great things out of him. We'll also platoon him at third and first."
