MU in the Minors & Majors

■ From the Visalia Times Delta:
The Visalia Rawhide — formerly the Visalia Oaks — announced Wednesday that Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Max Scherzer (04-06)will be the Rawhide's starting pitcher in Thursday's season opener against Lake Elsinore in Lake Elsinore.

Scherzer, a 2006 first-round pick of the Diamondbacks, played for the Visalia Oaks in 2007. He gave up just one run and struck out 30 in 17 innings during his brief stint in Visalia.

Scherzer is expected to be a valuable component of the Diamondbacks' major league rotation this year, but is not scheduled to make his season debut until April 14 — thus the rehab start with the Rawhide on Thursday.

Mansports.com: Lefty Rick Zagone (05-07), last year's 6th-round pick, who went 7-1, 2.89 at Aberdeen, is expected to be Delmarva's opening night starter on Thursday at Lakewood.

BaseballAmerica reports Justin James (02-03) has been released by the Cincinnati Reds organization.

Brock Bond (06-07) is listed on the roster of the Double-A Connecticut Defenders, according to Connecticut Defenders Home Base

Nathan Culp (04-06) is getting a promotion to Double-A San Antonio

Andrew Johnston (05) is set to be the closer for the Double-A Tulsa Drillers.
