The question caught Max Scherzer completely off guard. The Tigers right-hander was in the Comerica Park clubhouse last Wednesday night, talking to reporters about his dominant performance against the Yankees. He explained how he was able to shut down the highest-scoring team in the major leagues by being aggressive and continually getting ahead in the count.
Then there was this query: "Do you think you can be a six-win pitcher this season?"
Scherzer paused for a moment, smiled and said: "I'm not sure if I should answer that. I don't know if a lot of people will know what I mean if I say I want to be a six-win pitcher."

■ Crow providing Royals relief (Topeka Capital Journal)
Crow gives a lot of the credit to the leadership of Soria. The all-star, who has 138 saves since taking Kansas City’s closer role in 2007, is the lone veteran in a bullpen that includes five rookies (Crow, Collins, Jeffress, Nathan Adcock, Louis Coleman) and second-year righty Blake Wood.
“It’s a blast for all us rookies being in the big leagues for our first experience,” Crow said. “It’s great to have a guy like Soria down there to help us all out. We have five rookies, so it’s great to have leadership like that to show us the ropes.”
Soria defers the credit back to Crow.
“My advice is not necessary with him,” Soria said. “He’s been doing great. Like everyone else, he’s been handling things like a professional guy. It’s been a pleasure to be a part of this bullpen. I appreciate everything he’s done for us. It’s great to have him here.”
