The Tigers are 2-1 for the opening weekend - already an improvement over 2009.
- Mike Liberto should definitely receive consideration for Big 12 Player of the Week, compiling an .818 batting average, 9 hits in 11 at-bats, a double and a triple, 4 runs scored, 3 RBI and a walk.
- I've been saying all along that the success of the 2010 Tigers will hinge upon how quickly the freshmen and newcomers contribute. Dane Opel (.635), Blake Brown (.500) and Brannon Champagne (.286) certainly seem to be getting a good start offensively. Champagne has a great catch at the outfield fence that Tex Little described as very Evan-Frey-like, high praise indeed. Transfers Aaron Blunt and Jeff Scardino came out strong on the mound this opening weekend as well. The rain shortened the weekend schedule, keeping highly touted freshman Eric Anderson from getting his first start.
Meanwhile, the consensus #1 team in the country, the Texas Longhorns, lost 6-5 on Saturday and then dropped game 3 on Sunday, 3-1. Apparently everyone in the Top 5 had a bad weekend as well.
