“I got a letter from my mother . . .

. . . Leona, a dear woman..... She said in that letter, “You know, I thought it was about time school would be out. I was wondering where you were, why you hadn’t come home. Then we were listening to a Cardinal game on the radio, your dad and I. And when the World Series was on, we knew Missouri was in it. One night, Harry Caray said that Missouri had beaten Oklahoma A&M. And he said the battery for Missouri consisted of Gleason and Stewart. When Caray said that, I turned to your dad and said, ‘I bet Norm went out for baseball."
