So after an eighth-inning groundball skipped under Aaron Senne’s glove, McCormick let him hear it.
“I’m just trying to get you groundballs,” McCormick told the first baseman. “I thought it was easy.”
McCormick could laugh last night, because his performance was no joke.
■ Something to 'Crow' about tonight at Hammons (Springfield News Leader)
But he’s not throwing strikes, a point that likely will be emphasized tonight.
His start comes at an interesting time. The Royals’ big-league bullpen has been unreliable since the season got under way and Crow’s name was mentioned recently in a Kansas City Star story that floated a number of potential possibilities that could right the ship.
It’s not out of the realm of it still happening, given the former Missouri Tiger agreed in September to a $3 million major league contract with Kansas City, which tacked on a $1.5 million signing bonus.
But some of his “newness” has worn off, and it’s unlikely at this point that he’ll move on to Kansas City until he shows more than occasional dominance of Texas League hitters.
Then again, maybe tonight Crow changes his trajectory.
