The Tigers fell 10-9 in 10 innings at Kansas, putting a capper on all three games this weekend. Today’s loss was particularly frustrating as the Black & Gold pulled ahead in the top of the 10th with a pair of runs, going up 9-7. But they then allowed KU to score three runs in the bottom of the frame, getting the jog-off RBI double by Casey Lytle. This was the first time since 1994 that Mizzou had lost all three games to their arch-rival Jayhawks. It also put them at a precarious 7-13 in Big 12 play, a half-game out of last place.Sunday, KU 10, MU 9

The team was glad Santo stayed in the game. With the game tied at three in the fourth inning, Santo came up again and laced a double into right-center field. One run scored easily, and Dane Opel was determined to score a second one. Opel collided with the catcher at the plate, just beating the ball to make the score 5-3.■ Double gives KU win in 10th (CJOnline.com)
Opel got up quickly after the collision, saying later that it looked worse than it was.
“It wasn’t too bad,” Opel said. “I had a helmet on, he had a chest protector. He was blocking the plate, so I tried to slide as late as possible. I’m going to come back no matter what. It would take a broken bone.”
As he stood on second base after knocking a game-winning double in the 10th inning, Kansas' Casey Lytle had Hoglund Ballpark's best view of the chaos underway at home plate.■ Lytle lifts Kansas to three-game sweep of Missouri (WIBW.com)
"I saw them dogpile Jimmy (Waters), and I wanted to come and jump on top of the dogpile," Lytle said. "But then they all started running after me and I had to take off towards center field to try and get away from everyone."
After taking punches and a shaving cream pie to the face from his teammates, Lytle said the pain was worth it. It is fair to say nothing could hurt the Jayhawks after they erased a two-run deficit in the 10th to defeat Missouri 10-9 and sweep the season series for the first time since 1994.
KU's offense banged out 13 more hits on Sunday, giving them 37 for the weekend, which matches a season high for a three-game series. Junior Brian Heere led the charge, going 4-for-6 with a double and two runs scored, extending his hitting streak to a career-best 12 games. Heere entered the day tied with Kansas State's Nick Martini for the Big 12 lead in base hits.
The three-game sweep of Missouri puts KU in sole possession of fifth place in the Big 12 standings, and one-half game behind Oklahoma for fourth, pending the Sooners' outcome against Oklahoma State Sunday evening.

A year later, it was the 6-foot sophomore right-hander’s turn to pump his fist and be mobbed by teammates after the Jayhawks’ 9-8, series-clinching victory over the rival Tigers on Saturday night at Hoglund Ballpark.
Fick might be too good out of the bullpen to move to the starting rotation. Catcher Brett Nicholas said he gets excited when he sees Fick coming into games.
“He’s phenomenal,” Nicholas said. “He’s been that way all season. His stats show it. The way he comes in every single game. He’s really the go-to guy out of the pen right now.”
Nicholas said he has no doubt Fick has the ability to pitch in the rotation, but that is a decision that only coaches can make.
