♦ Kim English Fan (Detroit Free Press)
Max Scherzer should be donning Pistons gear soon with fellow University of Missouri grad Kim English Jr, a Piston.
"He's a good guy, and I think he'll bring some outside shooting to the team," said Scherzer, who is scheduled to start Sunday against the Indians.
MU IN THE MINORS
♦ Lollis emerges as bright spot for Fresno Grizzlies (Fresno Bee)
It isn't that unusual for the Giants to shift players directly from San Jose to Fresno when there is a need at Triple-A because it's a lot more convenient than a cross-country flight from Double-A Richmond.
Most players struggle after skipping a level in the minors. Lollis has proved the exception. The 6-foot-2, 185-pounder played three games at Richmond last year after spending most of the 2011 season at Class-A Augusta, which is a level below San Jose.
The Giants shifted Lollis to Fresno in large part because injuries to Peguero and Roger Kieschnick, combined with Christian's major league promotion in mid-June, created a glaring need in the Grizzlies outfield.
"When I first got here I told myself that I was just filling in while a couple guys were hurt," Lollis said. "But it's turned out to be more than that."
The Houston native credited Brock Bond, his former college teammate at Missouri, with easing the transition. They played two seasons together for the Tigers and were roommates for one before Bond entered pro ball. . .
