Soon both will be extinct in Missouri |
♦ Word on the Tweet
- Brett Graves: On the road to ku, first and last taste of the mu v.s. ku rivalry. #MIZ
- Nick Moore: Last Mizzou team to play kansas. Safe to say this will be a fun series. Knock em outta the Big 12 tourney #gotime
- James Abey: @MUTigerBaseball do me a huge favor and sweep the trash talkin chicken hawks #MIZSEC#big12bust
“We have to have a good weekend to get into the Big 12 tournament,” KU junior Jordan Dreiling said. “And with Missouri coming to town and all the hype surrounding them leaving, we should have a great crowd, and you should see some great baseball. With everything on the line, the Big 12 tournament and Missouri, it kind of all bunches up and makes it even more special.”♦ Next two conference series crucial for Jayhawks (kansan.com, 5/2)

“First off, just like a lot of the coaches in our department, I’m sorry to see the rivalry end,” Price said. “I’m a Californian, and when I came here I got warned what it was going to be like, and I still wasn’t prepared for it. There’s no rivalry in California that’s as nasty as this one.”
Added senior third baseman Zac Elgie, who will return to KU’s lineup after missing two weeks because of a broken finger: “The series and the history between these two is great, and it’s sad that it has to go.”
. . .
“Obviously, we want to win the series and come out on top of it as the final series played between these two programs,” Price said. “But that’s all secondary. It’s about winning the series.”
“Coach Price said it best,” Elgie said. “He said, ‘Let’s send them to the SEC on a losing note.’”
It’s the last Border Showdown ever most likely. Whoever wins this series will hold bragging rights over their rivals.
Should the Jayhawks take care of the Wildcats the weekend before, it is important that they finish the season strong against the Tigers to insure that they don’t miss out on the conference tournament.

Nothing would make a disappointing Kansas baseball season better than taking a series from its fierce rival who is bolting the conference for the SEC.
So as MU fans prepare for the SEC, perhaps the biggest adjustment will be life without their foil. What does Wile E. Coyote do if there is no Roadrunner?♦ Missouri Rep. holds Kansas-themed license plates hostage unless Kansas and Missouri play again (yahoo.com)

As Mendenhall bids a visitor goodbye from his office, he shows off his newest hat. It says "SEC" on the front, "MIZ" on one side and "ZOU" on the other.
On the back?
"BURN KU", of course.
"Always," Mendenhall said with a grin, "watch what's coming up from behind."
Missouri democratic representative Stephen Webber is determined to block Kansas-themed license plates from appearing in Missouri unless the Tigers and Jayhawks agree to a football or basketball game next year.
When Missouri announced it was leaving the Big 12 for the SEC, Kansas said it had no desire to keep playing the Tigers in any sports, which has been disheartening to both fan bases.
